Monardo Views
Meco (real name Domenico Monardo, born 29 November 1939) is an American record producer and musician, as well as the name of a band or production team based around him. Meco is best known for his 1977 disco (Space Disco) version of the Star Wars theme from his album Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk; both the single and album were certified platinum in the U.S.
Carly Monardo wraps up Guest Week here at the ol0’ giggle-emporium. Carly is a classy and talented lady who painted this friendly Futurism poster for me! She is also having a sketch drive to help raise money for her wedding to the equally-classy Chris Hastings of Dr. McNinja (and similarly-animated guest comic) fame. What a great chance to get some wonderful original art for your home, office or solitary-confinement enclosure!
You've heard it ... well, if you've been on the internet long enough to discover the MP3 music format, you've heard it - a snazzy, jazzed up version of the Star Wars theme song that sounds like it ought to be playing in the background during an episode of Three's Company. When you stop and think about it, a disco version of the Star Wars theme song isn't really all that crazy after all ... I mean, it was the 70's, right? We were lucky enough to get the chance to speak with Meco Monardo, the creative force (no pun intended ... ) behind this inventive idea, and we asked him about disco in the Star Wars universe ... and other spots around the stars as well ...
What a smart, beautiful, complex-in-all-the-right-ways piece. Too often, when humans write about animals, they resort to the expected (cute) epiphanies and overdoses of anthropomorphic schmaltz. But this is tough, rich, honest, and immeasurably compassionate essay not just about dog love but about love for fellow humans and for the messy, imperfect world we all share. Brava, Anna Monardo! This is one of the best things If've read in awhile.
