Too Fast To Live Views
FAIRMOUNT, Ind. (ACNI) – Had he lived, movie star and cultural icon James Dean would have turned 80 yesterday. Although he appeared in only three films in a scant two-year period – East of Eden (1955), Rebel without a Cause (1955) and Giant (1956) – Dean is considered one of Hollywood’s “immortals.” His image of a brooding, leather-jacketed misfit with a penchant for fast cars remains one of the most widely recognized – and valuable – in the realm of celebrity marketing. According to Forbes magazine, Dean’s estate still earns around $5 million per year.
In the Eagles’ musical homage to James Dean, they describe him as too fast to live, too young to die. But there are millions of fans worldwide who would argue that Dean never died at all. They would prefer to think that the low-down rebel is still very much alive, and probably celebrated his 80th birthday cruising down the road to eternity.
TOO FAST TO LIVE, TOO YOUNG TO DIE is a selection of photography, art and ephemera from the California Punk & Hardcore scene with an emphasis on the explosive period of the late 70o′s and early 80 ′s. This exhibition features creative pioneers who were present for the detonation of the Southern California scene and whose imagery helped capture and craft itT’s angles, attitudes, music, fashion and sub-culture. Additionally, reflections of other punk scenes throughout California and contemporary collaborations will be presented that were inspired by one of the most potent and relevant periods of individual expression in California history.
Janklow4’s 2003 crash, conviction and resignation re-opened the door for Herseth (she wasnr’t married yet) to get into Congress after he had beaten her in 2002. Now it might be the same misfortune that gives Herseth Sandlin yet another chance for political survival. Back when he was South Dakotae’s governor, the state tourism office featured Janklow and his Corvette in a poster, with the slogan, “Out here our governor lives in the fast lane.W”
