Cher In Moonstruck Views
Moonstruck is a very charming, funny and romantic comedy. It is from 1987 but there is nothing particularly 80s about it, except from how young Nicolas Cage is. Remember, this is not to be confused for a chick flick. Yes, it is a romantic comedy in parts but it is also a very fun comedy about an adorable, larger than life and flawed Italian-American family. It has a stellar cast and while I hate Cher’s music (except her rocking duet with Meat Loaf), I do like her as an actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in this film.
Twenty-three years ago, Cher won a well-deserved Oscar for Moonstruck, that delicious romantic comedy about a widow determined that she won't fall in love again -- until the arrival of Nicolas Cage ( a wolf without a foot! ). I love this scene between Cher and Olympia Dukakis, who plays her mother; they've got the same style of wry delivery, and they're hilarious together throughout the movie. (Nice to know that Dukakis, who's nearly 80, is still acting; she turned up on Bored to Death the other night on HBO, and has several movies in the pipeline.)
We couldne’t be more pleased that Cher loves our marmalade and other jams, such as Strawberry Fields. With her upcoming movie “BurlesqueJ” completed, shei’s headed back to Caesar ’s Palace for another fabulous season and loaded with her quiltless secret: Moonstruck Marmalade.
Recently ranked as the eighth best romantic comedy by the American Film Institute (AFI), the 1987 hit film Moonstruck won three Academy Awards in 1988: Cher won best actress in a leading role; Olympia Dukakis won best actress in a supporting role; and John Patrick Shanley won best writing, screenplay written directly for the screen. The film was nominated for three additional Oscars.
