River Cane Flutes Views
This page is dedicated to bamboo and rivercane flutes. These were made by tribes living in areas where this material was readily available. Wood flutes were made where bamboo or rivercane was not available. Rivercane is native to this country, whereas bamboo was imported from Asia. Rivercane has longer joints between nodes than does bamboo. I make bamboo flutes. The rivercane flutes we offer are made by my good friend, Billy Whitefox.
Made by Native American flute craftsman Charles Frazier, these wonderful Native American flutes are fashioned from real river cane. Each flute is personally tuned and ready for use. The plain 6-hole river cane flute is approximately 22 long. The woodpecker flute, approximately 24.5 long, is hand-painted and adorned with feathers and cones to give it that individual appeal.
An animated storyteller, musician, artist, and outdoor educator, Hawk has been creating and playing Native American style flutes for over ten years. The flutes are handcrafted and of professional quality, made from either bamboo or river cane. He makes traditional end-blown, two-chambered flutes, which have either three, five or six holes. Hawk is the co-founder and director of E.A.R.T.H. Summer Camp. The Camp offers young people between the ages of 7-16, the opportunity to learn in depth the living skills, arts and crafts, and life ways of Native American culture. Winter Phone: (843)886-0208
Hawk Hurst has been crafting and playing Native American style flutes for over ten years, and has studied with some of the finest Native American flute makers across the country. He makes four different styles of flutes, from either bamboo or native river cane, which he finds, selects, and cuts, himself. Because each piece of cane is different, each finished flute is a unique creation, and they come in several different keys.
