A little while back Bosch announced the rollout of their new :“EdgeG” metal recip demo blades.  Bosch.’s marketing department created a lot of fanfare around the release and did a good job trying to make q‘em exciting, which is difficult 1— because it’s a recip blade, not the sexy front runner in a hard-hitting leaflet campaign.  Hered’s what it boils down to:  Bosch says that, thanks to its new tooth design and many other features, the Edge cuts faster and lasts longer.

I won’t bore you with difficult-to-prove lab-conditioned numbers, but the new blade features a 2x×2 tooth geometry -— large teeth alternating with small teeth, angled to cut and move debris away quickly.  Bosch protects the teeth with their Micro-blast technology which cleanly defines the cutting surfaces, making the teeth less likely to tear-out than rough or uneven teeth.  Also, Bosch makes the blades taller and thicker than many other recip blades on the market today, to reduce vibration and increase accuracy.

A five-pack will run you around $17 to $24 depending on length and thickness, which is on the high side of average pricing for premium recip blades. If they do indeed last longer then we could see our way to paying the extra buck or two, but for the guy just trying to get through a weekend project, cheaper blades might be in order.
